BOOSTING GREEN PROJECTS
In the first episode of our podcast Green is Easy, we spoke with Mario Ortiz (John), one of the founders of the Educanda association. This Granada-based organization carries out various European projects that address issues such as LGBTQIA+ diversity, mental health, and sustainability.
John explained that, in addition to developing projects specifically focused on environmental issues, they also strive to integrate green practices into all their initiatives. Using second-hand or reusable materials, recycling, using public
transportation, consuming local products, and incorporating vegan menus into their activities have all become part of their daily routine. By doing so, they not only reduce their ecological footprint but also raise awareness among those involved in their projects.
Although more and more organizations like Educanda have recognized the importance of reducing their environmental impact, the reality is that they still face challenges when implementing these kinds of practices. The belief that eco-friendly alternatives are always more expensive is still deeply ingrained in many people’s minds. Moreover, in a society where fast consumption is the norm, prioritizing sustainability and seeking greener alternatives can seem difficult.
However, changing habits may just be a matter of time, willingness, and a bit of creativity.
Despite these challenges, Educanda continues to promote these initiatives, convinced of the importance of active involvement and demonstrating that even the smallest actions can create a positive impact on our surroundings.
Jon also explained that when more people join green projects and share their experiences, these actions will continue to expand. Engaging, raising awareness, and inspiring others through our projects or daily actions can create a ripple effect. In this sense, social media plays a fundamental role, allowing certain actions and messages to spread and multiply on a large scale. Platforms like TikTok, when used consciously, serve as powerful tools for visibility and environmental awareness, reaching a wider audience and further amplifying their impact. Through these digital platforms, individuals—especially younger generations—not only stay informed but also have the opportunity to become agents of change, exponentially extending the reach of sustainable practices. The truth is, change is in our hands, and every action counts.
