SUSTAINABILITY AND COMMUNITY ACTION

Sustainability is a fundamental pillar in the fight against climate change, and projects like Green is Easy show that change begins with concrete actions. In its recent podcast, members of the project explored various initiatives with environmental and social impact, focusing on education, ecological regeneration, and community involvement.
One of the central themes of the third episode was the presentation of CELEI, an organization dedicated to international education with projects in Morocco, Cuba, and Spain. Their goal is to create a positive impact through experiential learning, fostering critical thinking and direct action in the communities they work with.

Throughout the episode, various sustainable initiatives were highlighted, ranging from European responsible consumption projects to reforestation and ecological restoration efforts. A standout example is the reforestation of the Ribera del río Genil in Granada, an effort aimed at recovering native species and improving the local ecosystem.
Previous experience in Parque de las Canteras in La Zubia, though filled with challenges and lessons learned, served as a foundation to refine strategies and improve the effectiveness of the current project.

One of the biggest challenges is engaging young people in these projects. While youth recognize environmental issues, the difficulty lies in motivating them to take active participation. The key is to create a sense of belonging and commitment to their local environment. Examples like the restoration of irrigation systems in Padul highlight the
importance of connecting younger generations with local history and traditions to strengthen their bond with nature.

The podcast also prompted a deep reflection on sustainability: planting thousands of trees is not enough if there isn’t a committed community to care for them. Sustainability should not be just a one-time action but a shift in how we relate to our surroundings. True environmental justice goes hand in hand with social justice, and achieving it
requires involving everyone in the solution.
